Mental Health
Mental illness impacts most of us at some stage during our lifetimes in one way or another. The impact of mental illness on our healthcare system is daunting. There is a shortage of treatment options and community services available and this directly affects friends, families and the community. Heartbeat Nursing Agency is involved in community- and health service-based mental health programs and we take pride in supporting both our workers and our service users. Heartbeat Nursing Agency has become one of the largest suppliers of nursing staff to all areas of healthcare and we are valued for our high level of care.

Disability support services
Our support staff focus on our clients’ abilities, not their disabilities. We provide various support services to a range of clients which ensures that they can have support and access to their community. Our services can often mean the difference between a life of isolation and segregation and a life of greater self-reliance and confidence.
Palliative care at home
Our specialist nurses use a team approach to address the needs of our patients and their families to allow our clients to die at home as they wish.
It has been our experience that many people faced with a terminal illness prefer to stay in their own home surrounded by their family, pets and friends. However, nursing and supporting an ill relative or friend can be difficult and demanding and may seem a daunting task, especially if the carers have no or limited prior experience with chronic illness and the dying process.
This can affect the entire family; especially when the illness is relentlessly progressive and causes changes in the patterns of life for all the family. Although caring for the patient at home is extremely rewarding, it may also be strenuous, and physically and emotionally draining.
Heartbeat nursing can help you
It is our aim to support families and friends caring for their loved ones at home and to enhance their quality of life, which may also positively influence the course of illness.
Our caring and compassionate nursing staff can:
- provide relief from pain and other distressing symptoms
- liaise with GPs and other support services
- provide 24-hour nursing care and support as required
- affirm life and regard dying as a normal process
- intend to neither to hasten or postpone death
- integrate the psychological and spiritual needs of patient care
- offer a support system to help patients live as actively as possible until death
- offer a support system to help the family cope during the patients’ illness and in their own bereavement.
Heartbeat nurses bring not only knowledge and experience, but also unique talents to our patients. Their quality of the life matters most to us. Reaching the best possible outcome demands individual treatment, planning and service delivery for every client. Each member of the Heartbeat Nursing Agency team is committed to doing all it takes, no matter how challenging, to help individuals at home maintain as much independence and quality of life as long as possible.
